Faculty Position

  • Chair, Department of Africana Studies, University of North Carolina at Charlotte
    Senior level twelve-month appointment beginning July 1, 2008. Salary competitive.
    Applications are invited from individuals in any disciplinary tradition whose teaching and research demonstrate a commitment to Africana Studies as an interdisciplinary enterprise and whose vision of the field embraces the study of all facets of Africa and the African Diaspora.  Candidates should have 1) a doctoral degree, 2) an active research agenda in an appropriate field, 3) credentials and experience appropriate for a senior level appointment at UNC Charlotte, preferably as a full professor, 4) administrative experience that demonstrates their potential for success as a department chair, 5) interest in community outreach. A record of success in securing program-related funding is highly desirable. The selected candidate will need to have the ability to lead an interdisciplinary program consisting of both core and affiliated faculty, to integrate the department's faculty and programs into the mission of the college, and to work productively in the community.   • Program Specialist position, Latin American and Iberian Institute, University of New Mexico
    The Latin American and Iberian Institute announces the opening of a three-quarter time Program Specialist position to support and enhance the Institute's many programs and services relating to Latin America and Iberia.  This staff member will have principal/critical responsibility for conducting outreach and promotion/marketing for the Latin America Data Base, producing the LAII Newsletter, and organizing and promoting special events at UNM. Working closely with the LAII Director, Senior Program Manager, and other LAII project coordinators and specialists, the Program Specialist will promote the Institute's outreach to the University and its branch campuses, the wider communities of Albuquerque and New Mexico , and to national and international constituencies. Responsibilities will include developing and producing promotional materials, website maintenance, marketing, reporting, event coordination, and working with communications media. Flexible work schedule may be negotiated with the LAII Director and Senior Program Manager of the LAII.

  • Florida International University (FIU) is seeking a director for its Cuban Research Institute (CRI)
    The position of CRI director is composed of a 0.5 administrative assignment at CRI accompanied by a 0.5 faculty position in the College of Arts and Sciences.  The director will teach a halftime course load, represent the CRI to the academic and wider community, engage in grantsmanship and fundraising, and oversee the day-to-day administration of the Center. The ideal candidate will have a relevant doctorate, a distinguished research and teaching record in Cuban and/or Cuban American Studies, and administrative and fundraising skills. The candidate will present a vision for how a multi-disciplinary institute on Cuba and Cuban-Americans can and should evolve its research, teaching and service agendas, as well as its relationships with the university, other academic institutions, and the local, national, and international communities.  The candidate must also be tenurable at the associate or full professor level in the appropriate academic department.  The start date is August 15, 2008.

  • The Brazilian Embassy has an extensive internship program in a variety of areas. These are usually three-month unpaid positions, either full-time or part-time, which can be renewed for an additional three months.
